About Tyne Tunes

Tyne Tunes is led by Isaac Hornby, an experienced secondary school teacher who works with a variety of schools across the North East.

Isaac’s musical journey began with his first recorder lesson in Year 2, and he’s been passionate about music ever since. Over the years, he’s gained a wealth of experience through a wide range of musical opportunities.

With over 20 years of musical experience, music has been at the heart of my life since a young age. I began performing as a teenager and started teaching music at just 17. Since then, I’ve dedicated myself to helping others explore, enjoy, and excel in music — whether in the classroom, on stage, or in the studio.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Newcastle University, where I majored in music composition, and went on to complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) at Newcastle as well. I also hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), allowing me to teach in schools across England. I've worked with students of all ages and abilities — from young beginners to advanced musicians preparing for exams and performances.

Outside of teaching, I’m an active performer and currently play in three bands across the North East and North Yorkshire. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of performing at a wide range of festivals and music events, and one of my proudest moments was sharing the stage with renowned saxophonist Snake Davis.

These real-world experiences enrich my teaching, helping me bring lessons to life with practical insights and professional-level performance skills.
